Santuario di S. Maria Madre della Consolazione (Eremo)

In ancient times in the area, there was a small votive niche. Later, in 1532, twelve capuchin friars begun to build a convent, which, after the pestilence in 1576, was dedicated to Our Lady of Consolation.

Right inside the current convent, are kept bronze panels made by the sculptor Alessandro Monteleone, the “Via Crucis” made by the sculptor Pasquale Panetta and the venerated painted of Our Lady of Consolation and the piece of art made in 1547 by the painter Nicolò Andrea Capriolo. The artwork portrays the Virgin seated on a throne holding the Child, between St. Francis, represented with iconografic symbols of the Cross and the Book of rules, and St. Anthony from Padua, portrayed with the iconografic symbols of the lily and the Book of the Science of  Theology. Above there are two angels, which are crowning the Virgin, holding a palm tree.
